About Muskego, WI

Muskego, a small city in Wisconsin, has the fifth-largest community in Waukesha County. The city gets its name from Mus-kee-Guaac, a Potawatomi Indian name, meaning sunfish. People from Potawatomi were the first inhabitants of Muskego.

But according to historians, the first Europeans entered Muskego in 1827. The Potawatomi tribe came later in 1833. The Luther Parker family, though, were the first to settle down in Muskego permanently.

Muskego was initially an agricultural area but the government incorporated it into a city in 1964. Once it became a city, it included all the unincorporated communities of Durham Hill and Tess Corners. The rise in the real estate industry has made Muskego Milwaukee’s bedroom community.

The city covers an area of approximately 35.98 square miles. It has three lakes on its borders: Little Muskego Lake, Lake Denoon, and Big Muskego Lake.

According to the 2010 Census, there are more than 24,135 people. The population density is slightly more than 763.8 people per square mile. There are more than 7,011 families and 9,068 families residing in Muskego.
